Dr. James L.E. Hunt was born in Asheville, N.C. to the late Reverend Dr. James L. Hunt and Mrs. Kathleen Hunt.  He has been married to his helpmate Elvita Archie Hunt for 43 years.  They are the parents of 3 children… James “Jimmy” L.E. Hunt, II (Kimberly); Reverend Reginald “Reggie” Hunt (Julie); and Robin Hunt-Ingram (James). They are the proud grandparents of 5 grandchildren.

Dr. Hunt graduated from Morganton High School in Morganton, NC. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Livingstone College, class of 1970. He furthered his studies at Columbia University in New York, N.Y. where he received his degree in Physical Therapy. He earned a Masters degree in Postsecondary Education from North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro, N.C. and a Master of Arts degree in religion from Liberty University Lynchburg, VA. He studied at Hood Theological Seminary, Salisbury, N.C. and completed his Doctorate of Degree in Pastoral Ministry from Trinity Theological Seminary, Newberg, IN.  Dr. Hunt was the Director of Physical Therapy at Yadkin Valley Community Hospital, Yadkinville, NC…upon retiring in June 2014…after 44 years of service.

Dr. Hunt was the Assistant Pastor at Goler Memorial A.M.E. Zion church under the leadership of his father, the late Rev. Dr. James L. Hunt for seven years, until he was appointed Pastor of Patterson Grove AME Zion Church in East Bend, NC where he served for 5 years. Later he was appointed Pastor of St. John AME Zion Church of Thomasville, NC. where he continued for thirteen years.

Subsequently, Dr. Hunt accepted the pastoral position at New Birth Worship Center, East Bend, NC on February 20, 2000. Under his ministry and vision the church has grown spiritually, numerically and organizationally. Dr. Hunt peaches and teaches in accordance with our church’s motto: “The church where the New Birth in Christ are Empowered, Encouraged, and Equipped through Scripture”.
